What’s new in HerdMate

Alpha launch and polish

HerdMate is officially in alpha! We've been dogfooding the app on our own farm and squashing every rough edge we find. This release focuses on making the day-to-day experience smoother for real farmers entering real data.

What's new

• Farm location in settings — Your address from onboarding now shows in Organization Settings, and the weather widget uses your actual coordinates instead of defaulting to San Angelo, TX
• Batch FAMACHA entry — Score your entire herd from a single screen with select-all shortcuts and quick navigation between animals
• Milk batch auto-fill — Yesterday's weights are pre-populated when entering today's milk production, saving time on daily recording
• Accessibility polish — Proper aria-current on navigation, correct heading hierarchy across all pages, and descriptive page titles for screen readers

Dashboard overhaul

The dashboard got a major redesign focused on what matters most when you walk into the barn in the morning. Everything is organized around the question: "What do I need to do right now?"

What's new

• Morning briefing — A summary of today's priorities including upcoming kiddings, overdue health checks, and animals needing attention
• Weather forecast — Real-time weather from Open-Meteo based on your farm's location, with agricultural-relevant details like wind chill and precipitation
• Herd alerts — Synthetic alerts for weaning-ready kids, kidding watch animals, and withdrawal periods are now separated from scheduled tasks
• Withdrawal alert banner — A persistent top-of-page warning when any animal is in an active withdrawal period
• Domain-driven navigation — The sidebar is reorganized into logical groups: Herd, Health, Production, Breeding, and Utilities

Equipment management and demo mode

Two big additions this release: full equipment tracking for your farm infrastructure, and a demo mode so new users can explore HerdMate without signing up.

What's new

• Equipment tracking — Full CRUD for milking equipment, refrigeration, feed handling, housing, transport, and water systems with status tracking and category filtering
• Demo mode — Try HerdMate with realistic sample data before creating an account. Includes a guided tour, tier switching preview, and runs entirely client-side with no real API calls
• Personal account support — HerdMate now works for users without Clerk Organizations by automatically bootstrapping from your HerdMate org

HerdMate v0.1.0

The first version of HerdMate — modern herd management software built by goat farmers, for goat farmers. We started this project because every existing tool was either a spreadsheet with extra steps or enterprise cattle software that doesn't understand goats.

Core features

• Herd management — Track your entire herd with flexible identity (name, tag number, registration, or any combination). Import from spreadsheets or add animals one at a time
• Health tracking — FAMACHA scoring, body condition scores, treatments with withdrawal period tracking, and vaccination records
• Breeding records — Track breedings, pregnancies, kidding events, and build lineage records for your herd
• Milk production — Daily milk weights with batch entry, production trends, and lactation tracking
• Multi-tenant — Each farm is fully isolated with row-level security. Your data is yours alone
